Forest schools are a fabulous educational setting for children, but they also require stringent health and safety policies to ensure that everyone is safe at all times.
It goes without saying that these settings put the children and their wellbeing at the heart of everything they do, but in the case of one forest school in Horsham, the local authority failed to provide comprehensive training to its staff.
27 year-old technician, Adi Sody, lost his finger when preparing wood for a DT session at the West Sussex School.
Mr Sody was operating a saw to cut the wood when he felt a pain in his finger. After turning the machine off, he saw his finger on the bench.
The Health and Safety Executive found West Sussex County Council had failed to ensure proper training in the use of a circular bench saw and Mr Sody had not been trained how to use it safety.
Ensuring the safety of all staff starts with correct training. At Ranmoor Health and Safety we are accredited training providers and are here to make sure the wellbeing of your staff is protected.
